From four lines T-Mobile shows Essentials as the Essentials 4 Line Offer 2.0, a limited-time plan whose label says its price "is not an introductory rate." Regular Essentials 2.0 lists $140 for four lines before AutoPay, more than the offer's $120.

How much does it cost to add a line on T-Mobile?

What each extra line adds to the monthly plan price, with AutoPay. Each new line also adds the per-line fee and a one-time connection charge of up to $35.

Monthly cost of going from one fewer line to this many, with AutoPay, before the fee and taxes.

The free third line is worth $15 on Essentials 2.0, $30 on Experience More 2.0, $45 on Experience Beyond 2.0. It's for new accounts: T-Mobile's FAQ says you must "activate a new account with at least three voice lines on an eligible rate plan," and you keep it "as long as you maintain an eligible rate plan with a minimum of three active lines." It's given as a monthly bill credit that stops if you cancel any lines, and the page doesn't give an end date for it. An existing customer adding a third line pays what the credit is worth.

What's not in the advertised price?

Does T-Mobile's 5-year price guarantee cover the fee?

No. The guarantee covers the price of talk, text and smartphone data on Experience 2.0 plans and excludes taxes and fees, so a fee increase like this one is outside it. What T-Mobile's price guarantee covers goes through the terms.
