What international roaming costs, by carrier and trip length

For 10 days abroad, 11 of the 21 plans below include roaming at no extra cost with a usable data allowance. Of the ones that charge, the cheapest is US Mobile Unlimited Flex at $15, and the dearest with a stated data allowance, counting only the cheaper option where a carrier offers two, are Verizon International Monthly Plan and Visible, both at $100. AT&T Day Pass (Value, Extra, Premium 2.0) costs more, $120, and doesn't state a separate data allowance.

How much does roaming cost for your trip?

Costs are for roaming only, on top of whatever the plan costs at home. "Included" means the plan covers it; the data column shows how much high-speed data that actually buys, which is where an included allowance can still fall short. Visible's Global Pass is $10 a day; its $5 pass is for Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands only, and isn't used here. Annual Visible+ and Pro members get their included days upfront, so they appear as separate rows. Verizon's TravelPass is $12 a day with 5 GB of high-speed data per day; its $6 Mexico and Canada rate isn't used here, and Unlimited Welcome and Plus include those two countries anyway. AT&T's Day Pass is $12 a day and uses your plan's domestic data, so the data column can't give a figure; AT&T charges at most 10 day fees per bill cycle, and the figure shown is the most it can cost, for a trip that falls across two bill cycles. Cricket isn't in the table because its roaming covers only Mexico and Canada, on Smart and Supreme Unlimited and its 3- and 12-month plans.

What this misses

None of these give you a local phone number. If your destination wants one for deliveries, banking or bookings, roaming doesn't solve it at any price and a local eSIM does. Past the high-speed allowance most of these slow you down rather than cutting you off, and "slowed" varies from usable to useless by country. US Mobile's Starter allowance is 1 GB, after which you'd buy more. US Mobile's reach also depends on its network: Clark.com's review reports about 12 countries on Warp, its Verizon network, against 180+ on Light Speed and 90+ on Dark Star, so check the list for your line.
