UScellular is now T-Mobile: what that means for roaming, unlocking and your plan
No link on this page pays me. How the site makes money
T-Mobile bought UScellular’s wireless business on August 1, 2025. Every uscellular.com page, including its plans, roaming and unlock pages, now redirects to t-mobile.com, and UScellular prepaid customers “can no longer renew service.” If you’re a UScellular customer, your roaming and unlocking now run through T-Mobile. I’m not a UScellular or T-Mobile customer. This is T-Mobile’s own pages, read on October 3, 2026, and UScellular’s old pages as saved by the Internet Archive, marked as such wherever they’re used.
What happened to UScellular?
T-Mobile’s closing announcement says it “closed its acquisition of UScellular’s wireless operations” on August 1, 2025. T-Mobile took the customers, most of the stores and some spectrum. The towers and the rest of the spectrum stayed with the old company, renamed Array Digital Infrastructure.
At closing, T-Mobile said UScellular customers would “remain on current plans for now” and could later choose T-Mobile plans, with integration taking “about two years from close,” and that “the UScellular brand will transition in phases to T-Mobile.”
Today the transition is visible on the web: uscellular.com, its plans page and its support pages all send you to t-mobile.com. Copies saved by the Internet Archive show the UScellular home page still loading, with a “Joining T-Mobile” notice, in late August 2026, and redirecting by September 10, 2026.
What should a UScellular customer do now?
T-Mobile’s page for UScellular customers is the place to start. It answers “I got a text that said my account was moved to T-Mobile. What do I do now?” and covers what carries over: your number and voicemail move, your old login doesn’t, and Call Guardian becomes Scam Shield.
- Prepaid: T-Mobile’s prepaid welcome page says UScellular prepaid service can no longer be renewed, and offers a move to T-Mobile prepaid keeping your number.
- Business accounts: T-Mobile says migration to T-Mobile “is now underway” on its business page.
- New accounts: UScellular doesn’t sell plans any more. Its plans page redirects to T-Mobile’s, so if you’re shopping, you’re shopping T-Mobile or a carrier on another network. T-Mobile cost per line has what 1 to 6 lines cost with the fees.
How does international roaming work for UScellular customers?
T-Mobile’s page for UScellular customers says: “You can continue using your phone while traveling internationally, including in Canada and Mexico, based on your plan’s included features,” and that T-Mobile “offers simple add-ons you can add anytime.” It doesn’t list what each old UScellular plan includes.
If you’ve moved to a T-Mobile plan, roaming follows that plan. Experience Beyond includes 15 GB of high-speed data in 215+ countries and destinations, Experience More includes 5 GB, and Essentials includes texting abroad, with data by pass. T-Mobile abroad has the detail, and the roaming comparison prices a trip on every carrier.
For accounts still on UScellular’s own terms, the last archived roaming page (May 2026) said UScellular would “automatically add a $15 Daily Pass” when you travel, with Mexico and Canada at $5 a day, and that calls, texts and data were included on its Everyday and Even Better plans. That’s an archived page, not a current one. Check your account before a trip.
Does Verizon roam on UScellular?
Not that any company page says. UScellular’s 2024 annual report says it “has entered into roaming agreements with national carriers” without naming them. T-Mobile’s closing announcement says UScellular customers would move beyond limited roaming, “starting with reciprocal roaming” with T-Mobile customers. Separately, Array sold some spectrum licenses to Verizon in June 2026, which is a sale of spectrum, not a roaming deal.
How do you unlock a UScellular phone?
T-Mobile’s unlock policy says: “Current UScellular customers, please review the UScellular Device Unlocking Policies.” That link now redirects to a T-Mobile legal page, so the policy isn’t published where T-Mobile points.
The last archived copy of UScellular’s unlocking policy (June 2026) said:
- paid-off postpaid phones unlock after 40 days, and UScellular “will automatically unlock your postpaid device if your account is in good standing”;
- phones on an installment plan stay locked until it’s paid off, then 40 days;
- prepaid iPhones after 40 days, prepaid Android phones right away;
- former postpaid customers can unlock once they’ve paid everything owed.
Phones sold by T-Mobile follow T-Mobile’s rule. Postpaid: active at least 40 days on the line and paid in full, then unlocked automatically within two business days. Prepaid: 365 days since activation, or sooner with more than $100 in refills. Phone unlock policies by carrier has every carrier’s rules side by side.
What this page doesn’t know
Whether every UScellular account has finished moving to T-Mobile, what an old UScellular plan includes abroad today, and whether UScellular’s daily passes still exist are not on any page read for this article. T-Mobile’s page for UScellular customers, or its support line, is where to confirm them.
Read on October 3, 2026 from t-mobile.com, UScellular’s 2024 annual report on sec.gov, and Internet Archive copies of uscellular.com, each dated where it’s used.
Questions people ask
Does UScellular still exist?
Not as a separate carrier. T-Mobile closed its purchase of UScellular's wireless operations on August 1, 2025, and said the brand would move to T-Mobile in phases. Every uscellular.com page now redirects to t-mobile.com. The towers and some spectrum stayed with the old company, now called Array Digital Infrastructure.
How does international roaming work for UScellular customers now?
T-Mobile tells former UScellular customers they can keep using their phone abroad, including in Canada and Mexico, based on their plan's included features, and can buy add-ons. On T-Mobile's own plans, Experience Beyond includes 15 GB of high-speed data in 215+ countries and Experience More 5 GB; Essentials needs a pass for data.
Does Verizon roam on UScellular's network?
None of the company pages read for this article say so. UScellular's 2024 annual report says it had roaming agreements with national carriers without naming them, and T-Mobile's announcement mentions reciprocal roaming between UScellular and T-Mobile customers.
How do I unlock a UScellular phone?
T-Mobile's unlock policy sends current UScellular customers to UScellular's own policy, but that page now redirects to T-Mobile. The last archived copy, from June 2026, said paid-off postpaid phones unlock automatically after 40 days. Phones bought from T-Mobile follow T-Mobile's 40-day rule.
