AT&T's advertised price is a four-line price with two discounts built in
No link on this page pays me. How the site makes money
AT&T’s advertised prices are per-line prices for a four-line account: Value 2.0 is $30 a line with four lines and $50 with one. They also assume AutoPay from a bank account or AT&T’s Citi card, and the $30 Value price includes a $5 bill credit that lasts up to 36 months. Taxes and fees are extra. I’m not an AT&T customer; this is their plan page read on September 22, 2026.
What does an AT&T line cost on its own?
AT&T’s wireless plans page shows the four-line price large and the single-line price struck through beside it:
| Plan | Per line, 4 lines | One line |
|---|---|---|
| Value 2.0 | $30 | $50 |
| Extra 2.0 | $40 | $70 |
| Premium 2.0 | $50 | $90 |
| Elite 2.0 | $70 | $110 |
A person shopping for one line reads “$30” and pays $50, before anything else is added. The one-line prices come from the plan builder behind AT&T’s page, which prices each plan by line count; the struck-through figure on the plan card is the four-line price without AutoPay, not the one-line price. AT&T doesn’t say whether the one-line Value price assumes the $5 bring-your-own-phone credit described below.
What conditions sit under the price?
From the fine print above the plan grid:
Taxes and fees extra. Plan price after $10/mo. discount (starts within 2 bills) per phone line when you sign up for paperless billing and AutoPay with a bank account or AT&T Points Plus® Card from Citi.
The $10 discount is already in every number shown. It isn’t a saving you’re about to get; it’s a condition for paying the advertised price at all. Miss it and each line costs $10 more.
AutoPay from an ordinary credit card doesn’t qualify. It has to be a bank account or one co-branded Citi card, which is narrower than most people assume when they see “AutoPay discount.”
It starts within two bills, so the first month or two cost more than the price you agreed to.
The $30 Value price also carries a bill credit that ends. AT&T’s own summary says the plan price is “after $5 per month bill credit for up to 36 months with new BYOD smartphone on each line.” Read that way, the credit stops in month 37 and each Value line goes up by $5, a slow cliff. The price grid itself only shows the $10 AutoPay discount between its two figures, so how the credit appears on a bill isn’t clear from the page; ask before counting on it.
Are taxes included?
No. AT&T adds taxes and fees on top. US Mobile, Visible, Cricket and Total Wireless include them in the advertised price, so comparing a $50 AT&T line against a $25 Visible line understates the gap: only one of those two numbers is the number on the bill.
What does AT&T do well?
Mix-and-match across lines, so one person can be on Value and another on Premium without splitting the account. National coverage. And AT&T advertises discounts of up to 20% for employees of many companies, teachers, military and union members, which is a real saving if you qualify.
Value 2.0 is thinner than its name suggests, though: 5 GB of high-speed data before AT&T “may temporarily slow data speeds if the network is busy,” and 3 GB of hotspot.
If you have four lines, qualify for the AutoPay method, and use a discount program, AT&T can compete with prepaid. That’s a specific household, and if it’s yours, this page isn’t telling you to leave.
What’s the cheapest way to keep AT&T’s network?
Every plan on AT&T’s network, ranked at the price after any intro ends, is on the AT&T network page. The short version:
Two options run on AT&T’s own network:
- Cricket Wireless is owned by AT&T. Sensible 10GB is $30 a month with AutoPay and Select Unlimited is $35, taxes included; 12 months of unlimited paid upfront is $300, $25 a month, for a new single line with your own phone. The first month costs $5 more, because AutoPay’s discount hasn’t applied yet; Cricket’s own label says the higher figure isn’t an introductory rate.
- US Mobile on Dark Star is AT&T. Unlimited Starter is $270 a year at the regular price, about $22.50 a month with taxes included, and the line can move to Verizon or T-Mobile coverage later without changing carriers.
Prepaid lines can be deprioritized behind AT&T’s own postpaid customers on a congested tower. How much you’d notice depends on where you are at 6pm, and each carrier states its own priority terms per plan.
What should you check before leaving AT&T?
- Your real single-line price today, not the advertised one. Separate service from device financing on your last bill.
- Whether you’re inside a device payment plan. That balance is due when you leave, whatever carrier you pick.
- Whether you qualify for one of AT&T’s discount programs. If you do, run the numbers again.
- Then put your number into the calculator and read the Regular column.
Prices read off att.com/plans/wireless in a browser on September 22, 2026, because the plan grid is rendered by JavaScript. A script checks that page daily and the log shows the day anything moves.
Questions people ask
How much is AT&T for a single line?
The per-line prices AT&T advertises are four-line prices. On a single line the same plans are $50 for Value 2.0, $70 for Extra 2.0, $90 for Premium 2.0 and $110 for Elite 2.0, before taxes, and those already assume the $10/mo AutoPay and paperless discount. AT&T says its $30 Value price is also after a $5 credit for bringing your own phone; it doesn't say whether the one-line $50 includes that credit too.
What is AT&T's $10/mo discount and do I qualify?
It requires paperless billing plus AutoPay from a bank account or the AT&T Points Plus card from Citi. AutoPay from an ordinary credit card does not count. The discount also takes up to two billing cycles to appear.
Which cheaper carriers use AT&T's network?
Cricket Wireless is owned by AT&T and runs on it, with taxes included in its prices. US Mobile's Dark Star network is AT&T.
