Total Wireless: $20 a month for new customers, $25 on the grid, and a second line that costs more than the first

Total Wireless’s bring-your-own-phone plan is $25 a month with Auto Pay on its plan grid, taxes and fees included. New customers are offered less: $30 for the first month, then $20 a month, with no end date given. The part most people miss is lines: on Total’s MAX 5G BYO plan a second line costs $30, more than the first. I’m not a Total customer; this is Total’s plan pages read on September 22, 2026.

What does each Total plan cost?

Each plan is unlimited and runs on Verizon’s network (Total is Verizon’s own prepaid brand). Hotspot is worded two ways on the same page: the grid lists “Premium unlimited hotspot” as 10 GB on STARTER, unlimited on the MAX 5G plans and “premium unlimited” on ALL ACCESS, while the footnote says plans “have unlimited hotspot data at speeds up to 5 Mbps; Total ALL ACCESS, 10 Mbps.” Total’s pages don’t state how much priority data any plan has, so this site doesn’t either.

What is the $20 offer?

Total’s bring-your-own-phone page advertises MAX 5G BYO at “$20/mo with Auto Pay (taxes & fees included). First month $30.” The terms say it’s for new customers only, one per account, and that “after five (5) consecutive years, offer becomes subject to cancellation at Total Wireless’ discretion.”

Total’s deals page calls it a “limited-time offer”, so it may stop being offered to new customers. For someone who has it, there’s no month-13 cliff: the $20 has no stated end, just a point after five years where Total may end it. Two things to notice:

• The first month is $30, $10 more than the ongoing price.
• The price guarantee doesn’t cover it. Total’s 5-year guarantee applies to the rate before discounts and “does not apply to any promotions, add-ons, features, or discounts, such as an Auto Pay discount.”

That’s why the price cliff table lists Total’s $20 as an ongoing offer rather than an intro price that ends.

Why do extra lines cost more?

On MAX 5G BYO, the per-line price goes up with the second line: $25 for one, $55 for two. Even at five lines, $135, each line costs more than a single line does. STARTER is different from the third line on: two lines cost more per line than one, but at three and four lines each line costs less than a single STARTER line.

If you’re moving a family, price the whole account on each plan, not the single-line price times the number of lines. The calculator uses Total’s published line totals for this reason and marks any line count it has to estimate.

What does Total include?

• Taxes and fees in the advertised price.
• Roaming in 140+ countries including Canada and Mexico from a 10 GB allotment on MAX 5G, MAX 5G BYO and ALL ACCESS. STARTER roams in Canada and Mexico only. The roaming comparison costs it by trip length.
• Disney+ on ALL ACCESS for the life of the plan.

Why leave Total, and where to?

Staying on Verizon’s network:

• Visible is $25 a month, taxes included, with Visible+ at $35 for unlimited premium data, a figure Total doesn’t publish.
• US Mobile on Warp is Verizon. Unlimited Starter works out to $22.50 a month paid yearly, taxes included.

Leaving it:

• Tello is $25 a month on T-Mobile’s network, before tax, month to month, with no intro price to expire.

What to check before leaving Total

• Whether you’re on the $20 offer. Leaving gives it up, and it’s for new customers only, so you can’t come back to it.
• Your phone’s lock status. Total’s unlock page asks for your phone’s IMEI to show your rules. Check it before you buy a new plan.
• Your line count. Moving one line off a multi-line account can change what the rest pay.
